Upon arrival, one of our highly trained certified Cryotherapy technicians will greet you and have you fill out a Cryotherapy waiver.
To help you better understand what you will be experiencing during your first cryotherapy session, you will watch a brief instructional video. Our highly trained and certified staff will help answer any questions you may have.
After the video, your first Cryotherapy experience will begin! We will start by taking your blood pressure, to ensure it is within a healthy range.
Immediately after measuring your blood pressure , our certified technician will walk you to our Cryotherapy room, where you will receive your gloves, socks, and slippers that are required for your session in the Cryotherapy chamber, as well as a robe and few brief instructions to ensure your safety.
After changing into the appropriate attire, your certified Cryotherapy technician will return to the room, and instruct you to step into the Cryotherapy chamber where your rejuvenation awaits!
How it works and What is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy causes a sympathetic response in the nervous system by surrounding you with liquid nitrogen gas, causing the temperature in the chamber and around your body to drop between -200 °F and -240 °F. The body’s natrual reaction to these temperatures is a “Fight or Flight Response (FFR) which causes a release of a variety of neurotransmitters that are responsible for a cascade of healthy benefits. The FFR causes blood to alter its flow exclusively to the core of the body for a brief amount of time in response to the cold stimulus. In addition a variety of neurotransmitters, "feel good hormone", anti-inflammatory molecules among other chemicals are released into the system. Upon completion of the Cryotherapy process the healthier blood then returns to your extremities for a revitalized feeling, lessened inflammation, and an overall fantastic feeling!
1. What is Whole Body Cryotherapy?
Whole body cryotherapy is the process of exposing the body to hyper cool temperatures in order to trigger a natural healing process. This method was developed in Japan in the 1970’s, and is being used by all levels of athletes to decrease recovery time and improve performance, as well as by clients seeking recovery from musculoskeletal pain.
2. Is Whole Body Cryotherapy for me?
If you’re an athlete of any caliber, weekend warrior, or just seeking better health and wellness, whole body cryotherapy can help you achieve your greatest potential. If you are wondering how WBC can help you achieve better health, contact us today!
3. Is Whole Body Cryotherapy safe?
Yes. The air in the chamber is cooled using liquid nitrogen, and nitrogen is 78% of the air we breathe. The temperature change to your body is only on the surface of your skin; your internal body temperature remains the same throughout the treatment. Your head and neck always remain outside of the cryosauna for your safety. The cryosauna has a number of safety features to remove any risks. Magnets are used to hold the doors shut, so if at anytime you are uncomfortable, you can simply and very easily open the door. A highly trained and certified technician will always be present to make sure you are safe and secure. The room is also equipped with sensors and a proper ventilation system to check for and maintain optimal air quality. Our staff is fully trained to make sure you experience both healing and safety.
4. What are the risks of Whole Body Cryotherapy?
If you are pregnant, have a blood or heart condition, currently being treated for cancer, experience seizures, have a kidney or urinary tract infection, have open cuts or sores, or are under the stimulus of drugs or alcohol, whole body cryotherapy can possibly have adverse effects. In other cases whole body cryotherapy is safer than an ice bath as cold is applied superficially and for a shorter period of time. If you are unsure if WBC would work for you, contact us today for with any questions.
5. What can I expect during a session at Cryotherapy Indy?
Before entering the Cryotherapy chamber, a certified technician will walk you through the process so you know what to expect. While using the Cryo-chamber your hands and feet will be protected by gloves, socks, and slippers. Women can choose to remove or wear undergarments; men are required to wear underwear for protection. The session lasts between 1:30 and 3:00 minutes. During the session your core body temperature does not change. The air doesn’t contain any moisture, so you will feel chilled but not uncomfortably cold. Your skin temperature will get to an average of 50° F during your session, but will rise back to normal within a few minutes of the session’s conclusion.
