Dr. Tyler Crooks

Chiropractic Physician
Acupuncture Specialist

“From a very young age, I knew that I was put on this earth for a very specific reason. I knew that my heart and two hands were the tools with which I was given to serve my fellow man. My passion is to reconnect people with the source of what makes their life uniquely wonderful, whether that be playing with their children or simply getting back to their favorite form of exercise. As an athlete-turned-physician, I have spent my most of my life wrapping my head around a single fundamental concept that gives rise to many of the problems we experience as a society – we move wrong. These miraculous vessels we are all born into simply do not come with an instruction manual. Because of this, we tend to move in ways that are not compatible with how our bodies were designed to move. Often, these dysfunctional movement patterns go unchecked for months, or even years without consequence. The simple truth I have found is that many of us experience pain because we don’t understand how to correctly operate these magnificent vehicles we are born with. My mission is to empower my patients and the people in my community to use their body as a vehicle to live their life to its maximum potential – a life free of limitation.” – Dr. Tyler Crooks

Dr. Crooks assimilates the latest and most research-supported techniques and modalities in the fields of chiropractic medicine, nutrition, dynamic rehabilitation and dry needling acupuncture in order to bring the most comprehensive level of integrative care to each and every patient. This unique approach, centered around addressing the underlying dysfunction rather than “chasing pain” is what allows his patients to obtain the results they seek quickly and more importantly, arming them with the tools and information necessary to keep themselves healthy in the long term. Dr. Crooks is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA, which he uses in conjunction with the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) systems as well as Graston and Active Release Technique (ART) in order to integrate and tailor each patient’s treatment and rehabilitation program to their specific functional needs. In addition to these specialties, Dr. Crooks is an expert in the fields of cutting-edge recovery modalities such as Whole-Body Cryotherapy (WBC), Sensory Deprivation, Infrared Sauna as well as Peristaltic Pulse Compression therapies, which he regularly utilizes with his patients in the clinic. Dr. Crooks was born and raised in Terre Haute, IN. Throughout his life, he has always been heavily involved with the athletic community. In the arena of Track & Field, he eventually went on to compete at the Division I level as a Pole Vaulter for Indiana State University. There, he received his education in Kinesiology, or Exercise Science. Upon graduating, Dr. Crooks went on to receive his doctoral education from Logan University College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, MO. While working on his doctorate, he served as president of the largest chiropractic professional fraternal organization in the country where he polished his leadership skills in addition to organizing many educational and philanthropic events. In his final year at Logan University, he was selected for a prestigious internship as a student physician in the Myrtle Hilliard-Davis Comprehensive Health Center in St. Louis. This federally funded clinic offers free care to underprivileged citizens of St. Louis. Dr. Crooks served in one of the first classes of Chiropractors who were asked to join the Myrtle Hilliard-Davis integrative healthcare team, collaborating and co-managing with other healthcare professionals such as general practitioners, orthopedists, behavioral psychologists and pain management specialists to help meet the medical needs of the community.

When he is not with patients or keeping up with research, you can expect to find Dr. Crooks all over Indianapolis discovering new ways to recharge. In his free time, he enjoys hiking with his dog Sawyer, playing and building guitars, staying active in the Olympic and Powerlifting communities, catching Pacers games or simply spending time with his family and friends. He credits this balance in his life as to what allows him to arrive at the clinic every morning fresh and ready to meet each patient with the same love, energy and level of care. “My patients and everyone at this clinic are like family to me”, he says. “Here at Integrated Health Solutions, we work tirelessly to ensure that everyone who walks through our door not only gets better, but is met with a fun, loving and positive healing environment as well.”

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

An adjustment is a treatment administered by a chiropractor to treat musculoskeletal symptoms such as neck pain, back pain, headaches, shoulder pain, hip pain, and other conditions. Adjustments involve carefully applying light pressure to specific joint locations of the spine or extremities in order to restore joint centralization and normalize biomechanical movement of the joint.

Once I start chiropractic treatment, do I have to go forever?

No. At Integrated Health Solutions we strive to address the root cause of pain, not just the symptoms. Depending on your condition, we will work with you to determine a treatment plan that yields maximumresults in the shortest amount of time possible.

What techniques do the doctors at Integrated Health Solutions use?

At Integrated Health Solutions we seek to administer the most effective combination of treatment methods including acupuncture, rehabilitative exercises, soft tissues therapies (ART, Graston, PIR), Diversified Adjusting Technique, along with nutritional and dietary planning.

Can children be helped with chiropractic treatment?

Oftentimes, chiropractic treatment is beneficial for children/infants as well as adults. In fact, children typically respond to treatment even faster than adults. At Integrated Health Solutions, we are happy to treat children over the age of 8.

How do I know when I have completed my treatment?

At Integrated Health Solutions, we will work with you to determine a roadmap to success with activity and performance goals to be reached. When an injury or condition arises, pain is the last symptom to appear and the first symptom to go away. Thus, while each session will be accompanied by pain relief, this alone does not mean that the root condition has been relieved. Thus, follow-up visits may be necessary to ensure that the injury or dysfunction is completely addressed in order to prevent future pain.

Should an adjustment ever hurt?

Typically chiropractic adjustments are painless; in fact, adjustments generally bring immediate pain relief to a patient. If a patient has recently been injured, for instance in a car accident, slight discomfort may accompany the adjustment. Because of this, we seek to administer integrative treatment plans such as chiropractic care combined with soft tissue therapy in order to address all sources of pain.

Are all chiropractors the same?

Absolutely not. While many chiropractors specialize in one treatment type, at Integrated Health Solutions we are certified to administer a combination of techniques such as acupuncture, soft tissue therapy, rehabilitative exercises, as well as chiropractic care to maximize the results of your visits. Research has shown that integrating treatment techniques not only yields the fastest results, but also produces longer lasting solutions to most musculoskeletal conditions. Furthermore, we use an evidence-based approach to treatment in order to alleviate the root cause of a condition, not just the symptom.
